Finnish PaperworkersĄŻ Union calls off strike at Stora Enso mills
A 24-hour strike at the Stora Enso mills in Finland has been cancelled. The Finnish PaperworkersĄŻ Union members called off the industrial action following a Labour Court decision.
The Labour Court ruled that staging the walk-out would have been illegal.
The protest was to commence today, Wednesday, at 6:00 a.m.
According to the workers, the walk-out would have been a political expression of opinion against the government and the owner-favouring policy it exercises.
The closures of Stora Enso facilities in Kemijärvi and Hamina have prompted considerable anger and claims that the government - which administers roughly one third of the company's voting shares - has not done enough to safeguard Finnish jobs.
